What's so good about avocados anyway?

Why does everyone keep banging on about eating avocado you may wonder? Well, personally I think they're pretty tasty, but not only that they are full of good stuff! They are very fatty you may think, but whilst they do have fats in them, they are healthy monounsaturated fatty acids, aka the good fats which can help prevent high cholesterol. They contain almost 20 vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin K (good for bone health), Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Potassium (more in fact than is found in a banana). A high potassium intake has been shown in some studies to be linked to reduced blood pressure. Avocados are rich in natural fibre which can help keep a healthy digestive tract and they are also high in antioxidants, one of which, lutein, is important for eye health. Lastly (but not least, as there are numerous studies that have found further benefits from eating this fruit), it contains folate which can boost your mood by maintaining the brain's feel good chemicals, dopamine and serotonin. Of course you need to be sensible with your intake, don't go eating a whole one everyday for example. Half, or even a third is enough in one intake.
